Spicy Apple Crisp

I love that you can throw this dessert together ahead of time and then pop it in the oven when you're ready to serve it warm! I made this for my diabetic grandpa so I kept this sugar-free (and it's sweet enough as-is), but if you don't care about the sugar, adding a tablespoon or two of brown sugar to the oatmeal topping will really 'kick it up a notch'!

Spicy Apple crisp
Serves 4

4 apples
1 teaspon lemon juice
1/3 cup flour
2/3 cup quick-cooking oats
1 ½ teaspoons cinnamon
¼ teaspoon nutmeg
1/3 cup butter

1. core and peel apples and chop into pieces
2. toss apples with the lemon juice, 1 teaspoon of the cinnamon, and the nutmeg and place into a greased glass baking dish
3. chop softened butter into bits, combine with flour, oats, and remaining ½ teaspoon cinnamon and mix with fingers until well incorporated and chunky
4. sprinkle topping over apple chunks and bake at 350 degrees for about 20 minutes or until apples are tender
5. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream on top
