Old Fashioned Molasses Cookies

These cookies were my first attempt at cooking with molasses and I was excited that they turned out so yummy! My grandma and husband both love spicy molasses cookies and these passed the taste test with flying colors. This chewy treat just begs to be eaten with a cold glass of milk on the side!

Old Fashioned Molasses Cookies
Makes about 3 dozen

3/4 cup butter
1 egg
1/4 cup plain molasses
1 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon ginger
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups flour
1/2 cup white sugar

1. cream butter and brown sugar together, add molasses and egg and mix well
2. in another bowl combine all dry ingredients except white sugar
3. mix dry ingredients into butter mixture and chill for at least 30 minutes in refrigerator

4. roll quarter sized balls of dough in the white sugar and place on an ungreased cookie sheet (DO NOT FLATTEN!)
5. Bake at 350 degrees for about 10 minutes, until top is dry and cracked, let cool for 1 minute before removing from baking sheet to cool on racks.
