5 Minute Chocolate Cake in a Cup (a.k.a. Rich Gooey Cup of Heaven)

Apparently, all the cool kids know about cake in a mug. I, not being one of the cool kids, had never heard of it until recently. A recipe made the email rounds not long ago explaining how to make this chocolaty marvel and the thought that I could enjoy a personal chocolate cake in 5 minutes intrigued me, so I tried it with a few of my own adjustments. I swapped out the original recipe's cocoa powder and oil for butter and chocolate chips (waaay yummier!) and added vanilla and cinnamon for extra depth of flavor! Oh. My. Word. Let's just say I've made this for the last 3 nights in a row. Gooey, rich, and so easy it's scary... make it now and enjoy your own chocolaty cup of heaven!

5 Minute Chocolate Cake in a Cup
(a.k.a. Rich Gooey Cup of Heaven)
(Makes one large mug or two teacups)

4 tablespoons flour
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
3 tablespoons sugar
1 egg, lightly beaten
3 tablespoons milk
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
4 tablespoons (1/2 stick) butter
1/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (plus 1 tablespoon for garnish)

1. Melt butter in a double boiler and stir in 1/4 cup chocolate chips until melted and smooth, then set aside to cool
2. Mix dry ingredients (flour, sugar, cinnamon) together in a small bowl
3. Add egg, vanilla, and milk and stir gently to combine
4. Fold in chocolate mixture until incorporated
5. Pour batter into a mug or divide evenly into teacups and microwave (1 large mug for 2 1/2 minutes or teacups for 1 minute and 15 seconds each), a toothpick should come out with moist crumbs since it will continue to cook as it sits
6. Sprinkle extra chocolate chips on top, allow to cool a little and thoroughly enjoy!

  1. Dangerous!! this is plain dangerous cause I have everything on hand. And I have 5 minutes to kill. What oh what should I ever do with my 5 minutes of free time? LOL!

  2. WOW, my wife hooked this up and it's really tasty !!! Thanks for inspiring her ;)
