Oyster Sauce Beef with Green Beans

Happy Chinese New Year! In cleaning out my kitchen cabinet the other day, I found a hand-me-down wok and decided I would try making Chinese food with it for the first time. I combined several different recipes for oyster sauce beef, added green beans, and served it all over Jasmine rice. The beef was tender and flavorful, the green beans crisp, and the rice covered with yummy oyster sauce! Delicious!

Oyster Sauce Beef with Green Beans
Serves 2

For the marinade:
1/2 teaspoon soft brown sugar
1 tablespoon dark or light soy sauce
2 teaspoons Chinese seasoned rice vinegar
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
2 teaspoons thick cornstarch paste - (1 part cornstarch with 1.2 parts cold water)

1/4 cup oil
12 ounces beef, cut into postage stamp sized pieces
12 ounces (about 2 large handfuls) fresh green beans, trimmed and cut in half
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon soft brown sugar
2 tablespoons oyster sauce
2 teaspoons Sesame seeds

1. In a medium bowl add all the marinade ingredients and whisk to combine
2. Dump in the small chunks of beef and toss well in marinade to coat each piece. Cover bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for several hours or overnight.
3. Heat oil in a wok or large skillet on medium-high heat until shimmering
4. Add meat and marinade and cook until all pieces are browned
5. Add green beans, salt, sugar, oyster sauce, and sesame seeds and cook until beans are crisp-tender
6. Serve over steamed Jasmine or brown rice, garnish with another sprinkle of sesame seeds, and enjoy!

  1. I am so glad I found your blog! We have two foreign exchange girls living with us. One is from Hong Kong and the other is from Bangkok, so I am on the look out for recipes to make for them. I will be back to see what other delicious recipes you are posting!

    Blessings,
